Arva Flour Mills Celebrates 100 Years of Red River Cereal!

Arva, Ontario, December 7, 2023 - Arva Flour Mills, North America's oldest continuously operating commercial flour mill, is proud to announce the 100th anniversary of Red River Cereal, the iconic Canadian breakfast hot cereal made with a blend of cracked wheat, rye, flax and whole flaxseeds.

Red River Cereal was first created in 1924 in Manitoba by Gertrude Skilling, who experimented with different grain mixtures grown in the Red River valley. The cereal was patented in 1929 and became a staple in many Canadian households for its hearty and nutritious qualities. The cereal brand was acquired by Arva Flour Mills in June 2022 from Smucker Foods of Canada Corp., a subsidiary of The J.M. Smucker Co.

"We are honoured to be the custodians of this historic brand and to continue its legacy for generations to come," said Mark Rinker, owner of Arva Flour Mills. "We have received an overwhelming response from loyal customers who are thrilled to have their favourite cereal back on the shelves and available on-line."

To celebrate the milestone, Arva Flour Mills is launching limited editions of both black and red boxes of Red River Cereal in the original 1.35Kg format. The red and black boxes will be available for a limited time at the Arva Flour Mills store and on-line at arvaflourmills.com starting early December.

Arva Flour Mills is also inviting customers to share their stories and memories of Red River Cereal on social media using the hashtag #RedRiver100. The best stories will be featured on the company's website and social media channels and will receive a free box of Red River Cereal and merchandise.

"We want to thank our customers for their support and brand loyalty over many, many years," said Rinker. "We hope they enjoy celebrating this special occasion with us with fond memories, and a bowl of Red River Cereal!"
