Frequently Asked Questions

Shipping

Do you ship across Canada?

Yes. We ship to every province and territory. At checkout you choose your shipping region and the cost is based on the total weight of your order. We ship to rural addresses, and to PO boxes by Canada Post only. See our Shipping page for the current rates.

How quickly do orders ship?

We ship orders daily, Monday to Friday. Occasionally an order may be delayed by 1–2 days.

Which carriers do you use?

Within Ontario our default carrier is Courier Plus. If you'd prefer Canada Post, tell us in the "Add note to Arva Admin" box in your cart.

Can I pick up my online order?

Yes. You can choose in-store pickup at the Mill Store at checkout (2042 Elgin Street, Arva, ON).

Do you ship to the United States?

Our Red River Cereal 5 Pack is the only product we ship to the US. It's listed with shipping included. Because the United States ended its de minimis (duty-free low-value import) exemption, we no longer ship other products to US addresses. US customers can also find Red River Cereal through our US purchase options.

Wholesale

How do I order wholesale?

Wholesale orders have a $150 minimum and are ordered by the case. Email mark@arvaflourmills.com for an access code to our wholesale portal at wholesale.arvaflourmills.com. You can pick up orders at the mill or have them shipped at your cost. Local delivery may be arranged. See Wholesale Orders for details.

Our flour & the mill

How should I store your flour, and how long does it keep?

All flour is perishable, and ours more so than store-bought flour, because we don't add enhancers or preservatives when we mill it. Once opened, keep your flour in an airtight container. If you won't use it within 30 days of opening, move it to the fridge or freezer, where it stays fresh for up to a year. Whole flours keep less long than white flours, so they're best used sooner or chilled right away.

How long has Arva Flour Mills been operating?

The mill was established in 1819 on the Medway Creek in Arva, Ontario. It has been in continuous operation for more than 200 years and is owned by Mark and Jo-elle Rinker.

How is the flour milled?

From 1819 to 1901 the mill ran stone grist mills. In 1901 those millstones were replaced by Goldie & McCulloch cold roller mills, which we still use today to mill our flour. The roller mills don't produce the heat of commercial milling.

Who makes Red River Cereal?

Red River Cereal is made in Canada at Arva Flour Mills. It's back in production at the historic Arva Flour Mill, which is now the home of Red River Cereal. The Original recipe is cracked wheat, cracked rye, and cracked and whole flax.

Do you offer classes?
